explain this statement in majority of higher animals and plants growth and reproduction are mutually exclusive events

In Unicellular organisms like bacteria growth and reproduction are mutually inclusive events as we know that the unicellular organism grow only when they reproduce. Its quite difficult to seperate these processes because cell division is the means of reproduction in them.But in case of multicellularorganisms the growth takes place because of enlargement of cells and cell division. In plants we are able to see cell division in their entire life span,but in animals the growth is seen only up to a certain age . So both the process of growth and reproductions are separate events in multicellular organisms
