Residual volume is the air capacity of the lungs.

And it contains for our breathing air.

LUNGS always contain residual volume of air ( oxygen ). The lungs contain this because it needs some time period to inhale and exhale.

To have PRESENCE of air in our lungs , even between the time period of inhalation and exhalation, our lungs contains the residual volume of air
