Xerophytic vegetarian and canfined to arid zones of the country which receive less than 75 CM of rainfall. scattered tree with long tapping roots throny branches and small fleshy leaves in a radial pattern are common features which gradually turn into shrubs and thorny bushes. These forests are spread over north-western plant i.e. Saurashtra in South and Northern plain of Punjab. THORN FORESTS
- In regions with less than 70 cm of rainfall the natural vegetation consists of tho-rny trees and bushes.
- This type of vegetation is found in the North Western part of the country, including semi arid areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, palms, Euphorbias and cacti are the main plant species.
- These forests give way to thorn forest and scrubs in arid areas.
- In this forest the common animals are rat, mice, rabbits, Fox, wolf, lion ,horse and camels.
