What does that mean… some natural resource gets used for something unintended? Some natural resource is running out? Some natural resource gets wasted? By definition, a “natural resource” is something of nature that has utility for humans. In other words, it can be used by us for something productive, for something destructive, or just for maintainance (keeping us where we are). When we waste natural resources for any of these purposes — consume more than are necessary — I suppose they are being “over exploited”. Do we waste natural resources? Yes, all the time … e,g. 1/3 of the food we produce and package never gets eaten, most weapon systems become obsolete before being deployed (war is a major waste), most energy systems are highly inefficient. All of this is to suggest that we can do better by protecting, not wasting natural resources.
