Three reasons for the decline of caste system in India are: 1. Growth of literacy and education: After industrialization the literacy rate has increased. 2. Due to occupational mobility new generation takes up occupations other than those practised by their ancestors. 3.Large scale urbanisation – shift of people from rural areas to urban areas in search of job and better living conditions. 4.The political leaders and social reformers advocated and worked to establish a society in which caste in equalities are absent.

\textbf{Decline of the caste system in India }:

1. Social reformers like Phule, Gandhiji etc. made great efforts against the caste system. They aimed to promote a casteless society.

2. Urbanisation has also diminished the awareness of caste, as people rub shoulders in buses etc.

3. Literacy has also increased with education, which had also helped to decrease the belief in caste.
