Crops require suitable climatic conditions, optimum temperature ranges and particular durations of daylight for their proper growth and flowering plant growth and flowering depend on different plant hormones which control various functions. These are available to the plants regulate the synthesis of these hormones. Depending on the seasonal conditions and the time of growth there are three main crop seasons in India :-

  • Kharif

  • Rabi

  • Summer crop

Kharif crops :-

Rice, jowar ,bajra ,maize, cotton, sugarcane, soybean, groundnut are kharif crops They are sown in the rainy season around (June- July) and harvested around October.

Rabi crops :-

Wheat, ,grams , potato, mustard and peas are rabi crops . They are sown in the winter season around October and harvested around march.

Summer crops :-

Pulses like urad and moong are grown in the summer months (march to June) . Rice, maize, potato and groundnut are also grown as summer crops in areas which are well irrigated.

Improvement in Crop Result :-

The result from crops can be improved by adopting some scientific approaches. These approaches which improve the crop result are as following :-

  • Management of crop production

  • crop improvement through genetic manipulation.

  • Management of crop production.
