Tooth enamel contains calcium phosphate which makes it the hardest substance in our body. It does not dissolve in water but gets corroded when the pH in the mouth is less than 5.5.Using toothpastes, which are basic(alkaline) in nature, neutralises the acidic in our mouth and brings the pH of the mouth to normal.
