In Rajasthan there were baolis which were large open containers made in an open area the rainwater was collected in these huge containers and was used later. But this method was not hygienic cause the collected water was open.

⏸In mountainous region people use to build diversion channels like guls and Kuls in the western Himalaya for agriculture.
⏸It is commonly practised to store drinking water particularly in rajasthan.
⏸People develop inundation channel which are directly linked up with the river for irrigation purposes in the West Bengal.
⏸In arid and semi-arid regions, agricultural fields are converted into rain fed storage structures that allowed the water to stand and moist the soil. for Eg,-Khadins in Jaisalmer and Johads in other parts of Rajasthan.
