Two modes of reproduction :-

  1. Sexual reproduction
  2. Asexual reproduction

1. Sexual reproduction :-

The process by which the genetic material of two organisms gets combined.

The sex cells or gametes (sperm and ovum) are produced by meiosis.

Each parent contributes each half of the offspring's genetic material by creating haploid gametes.

These gametes combine together to form a diploid zygote which is the future embryo.

Eg- Humans.

2. Asexual reproduction :-

The process by which organisms form genetically identical copies of themselves known as clones.

It organisms divide by mitosis.

The formation of gamete is not required.

Eg - Binary fission in bacteria, budding in yeast and hydra.
