Indigestion: Sometimes, the stomach produces too much hydrochloric acid, called hyperacidity, which causes indigestion. The acid is neutralised by taking a tablet (antacids) containing calcium carbonate, aluminium or sodium hydrogencarbonate.

Ant sting: When you are stung by an ant, the burning sensation on your skin is caused by methanoic acid. You can neutralise the acid by rubbing a dock leaf on the wound. As you press the dock leaf against the wound, a base in the leaf juices reacts with the acid in the sting and neutralises it so that the burning sensation stops.

Medhani07: Here's your answer!!
Medhani07: •To treat acidic soil

(i) Plants cannot grow well in acidic soil.

(ii) Lime fertilisers such as powdered lime, CaO, limestone, CaCO 3 or ashes of burnt wood are added to the soil to neutralise it acidity.
Medhani07: • To treat basic soil

(i) Basic soil can be treated by using a compost of rotting vegetables or leaves.

(ii) This is beacause the rotting vegetables and leaves decompose to liberate carbon dioxide gas.

(iii) The acidic gas from the decomposition of compost neutralises the alkalis in basic soils.
