{ The aim was that no village in a developed agricultural region}

{ should be more than five miles (8 km) from a major road or two miles (3.2 km)}

{ away from any other road.}

{ This plan was not effectively implemented as there were many princely states outside British India.}

1) GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL SUPER HIGHWAY

#These are six lane highways managed by NHAL

* Golden Quadrilateral highway linking Delhi -Kolkata - Chennai - Mumbai

* North-South Corridor

* East-West Corridor

2) NATIONAL HIGHWAY

# They link extreme parts of the country . National Highway are the primary road system and are constructed and maintained by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under NHAI super version .

3) STATE HIGHWAY

#These are roads linking a state capital with it's district headquarters . They are constructed and maintained by the State Public Work Department (SPWD) in States and Union Territories.

4) DISTRICT ROADS

# These roads connect the district headquarters with other places of the district . These roads are maintained by the Zila Parishad of the district

5) OTHER ROADS

# Rural roads , Which link rural areas and villages with towns , are classified under this category . These are constructed under Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana ( PMGSY)

6) BORDER ROADS

# The border roads organization (BRO) construct and maintains road in the border areas of the country . It was established in 1960
