there were a number of causes for the widespread poverty in india:

1)one historical reason is the low level of economic development under the british colonial administration.

2)the policies of the colonial government ruined traditional handicrafts and discouraged development of industries like textiles. the low rate of growth persisted until the nineteen eighties.

3)this resulted in less job opportunities and low groww rate of income.

4)this was accompanied by a high growth rate of population. the two combined to make the growth rate of per capita income very low which continued the cycle of poverty.

5)with the spread of irrigation and the green revolution, many job opportunities were created in the agricultural sector. but the effects were limited to some parts of india.

6)the industries, both in the public and the private sector, did provide some jobs . but these were not enough to absorb all job seekers.

7)unable to find proper jobs in cities, many people started working as rickshaw pullers, vendors, construction workers, domestic servants etc. with irregular incomes, these people could not afford expensive housing.

8)they started living in slums on the outskirts of the cities and the problems of poverty, largely a rural phenomenon also become the feature of the urban sector.

9)another feature of high poverty rates has been the huge income inequalities.

10)many other socio cultural and economic factors are also responsible for poverty.

Hi friend,

We all know that some people in our country are still under poverty.

The main reasons for this are-:

•Lack of education that's the major reason as if one doesn't have knowledge then he/she will not get job anywhere and if no job,no money and no life.

•Overpupulation as if overpopulation will be there the jobs will be less and the job takers will be more so which are capable also will be left behind people of lack of jobs.

•Natural disasters as if some natural disasters like floods takes place then the property will be damaged and thus all the money and other things of the people will be damaged which also can take them to the way of poverty.

•Climate changes which causes problems like if there will be less rainfall then the crops of farmers will not harvest properly and all the money which they spent on the seeds, fertilizers will all go to vain.

•Epidemics diseases as much money will be spent on the medicines and other medical treatments.

Hope it helped you....................
