There are two types of eclipses:

  • Solar eclipse
  • Lunar eclipse.

OCCURENCE OF SOLAR ECLIPSE

⭐A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets between Earth and the sun, and the moon casts a shadow over Earth.

⭐A solar eclipse can only take place at the phase of new moon, when the moon passes directly between the sun and Earth and its shadows fall upon Earth's surface.

OCCURENCE OF LUNAR ECLIPSE

⭐ A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind Earth and into its shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned with Earth between the other two.

⭐ During a total lunar eclipse, Earth completely blocks direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.
