ART or Assisted Reproductive Technology are a series of methods which are applied to the couples who can't produce children naturally.
The methods used in ART are:
IVF or In- Vitro Fertilisation: This method involves taking the sperms from the male partner or husband and ovum from the female donor or wife and fertilise them in the test tube mimicing natural conditions. When the zygote reaches 8 celled stage, it is placed in the mother's uterus for further development. This method is applied for the condition where the female partner has defects in her ovary.
ICSI or Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection: This method involves taking sperms from the male donor or husband and releasing it into the ovary using a micro injection. This method is applied for the condition in which sperm count is less in males.
IUI or Intra Uterine Injection: This method involves inserting zygote into the uterus for further development using a micro injection.
GIFT or Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer: The sperms from the male donor is transferred in to fallopian tube of the female partner allowing it to fertilise.
Surrogacy: This method involves implanting the zygote in another female's uterus other than the mother. This method is applied when the mother's uterus is not fit to support the baby's development.
