A velocity selector is a device used to select particles according to their speed. The velocity selector uses orthogonal electric and magnetic fields to select particles of correct charge to mass ratio and velocity. Other particles will be deflected by this field.

A velocity selector is a region in which there is a uniform electric field and a uniform magnetic field. The fields are perpendicular to one another, and perpendicular to the initial velocity of the charged particles that are passing through the region.
