A verb is a doing word that shows an action, an event or a state. A sentence may either have a main verb, a helping verb or both. In other words, a verb is a word that informs about an action, an existence of something or an occurrence. The verb is the main word in a sentence. No sentence can be completed without a verb.

Verbs

  • Verbs is action words.
  • A word that shows action called verb.
  • The action or saying words are the verbs of a sentence.

Verbs are of three kinds.

  • Transitive Verbs
  • Intransitive Verbs
  • Linking Verbs

Transitive Verbs :- The verb that needs and objectives to complete the sense of sentence is called Transitive Verbs.

Example :-

  • Jack reads.
  • Marie cuts.
  • David sings.

Intransitive Verbs :- Intransitive Verbs do not need an object to complete their meaning. Such words have complete sense even without an object. Such verbs are called Intransitive Verbs.

Example :-

  • The train stopped.
  • The boy ran.
  • The bell is ringing.

Linking Verbs :- They do not take an object to make their sense complete. In such cases compliment is added at the end of a sentence to make its sense complete. A verb that joins a verb with its complement is called a Linking Verbs.

Example :-

  • The bill sounds beneficials.
  • The player is young.
  • The oldman is honest.
