According to the vernacular press act no editors of vernacular papers were allowed to print anything which would create a sense of nationalism among Indians.

MODELLED ON THE IRISH PRESS LAWS THE VERNICULAR PRESS ACT WAS PASSED IN 1878 .THIS LAW GAVE THE GOVP TYRANNICAL RIGHT TO CENSOR REPORTS AND EDITORIALS IN THE INITIAL WARNING PRESS .IF A SEDITIOUS REPORT WAS PUBLISHED AND THE NEWSPAPER DID NOT HEED TO AN INITIAL WARNING ,THEN THE PRESS WAS SEIZED AND THE PRINTING MACHINARY CONFISCATED .THIS WAS COMPLETE VIOLATION OF THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

HOPE IT HELP YOU
