Viruses and bacteria are microorganisms present around us that cannot be seen through our naked eyes. Let's talk about both of them.
1. Viruses
- Viruses are infectious organisms that are inert and crystalline when free but as they infect an organism, they take over the machinery of the host organism.
- They are nucleoprotein structures with DNA/RNA covered in proteinaceous covering.
- Viruses cause various diseases like the common cold, herpes, AIDS, influenza, mumps, smallpox, etc.
2. Bacteria
- Bacteria are microscopic prokaryotic organisms that are present almost everywhere.
- They are broadly classified into eubacteria (which are further classified into cocci, bacilli, spirilla, and vibrio based on their shapes) and archaebacteria (which are majorly methanogens, thermoacidophiles, and halophiles).
- The various bacterial diseases are cholera, tetanus, citrus canker, typhoid, etc.
