Because virus is neither alive nor dead

Explanation:

  • Virus is considered living and non-living according to their presence in host or outside the host. If a virus is present outside the host they do not show any metabolic activities therefore they are considered as non-living.
  • When they are introduced in their host they can replicate and form proteins. So in a host, they are considered as living.
  • Therefore as virus is both living and nonliving they are considered to be at the threshold in life. All virus requires a host to live and are intracellular parasite.
