Answer:

VSEPR theory is used to predict the arrangement of electron pairs around central atoms in molecules, especially simple and symmetric molecules. A central atom is defined in this theory as an atom which is bonded to two or more other atoms, while a terminal atom is bonded to only one other atom.

This Theory given by Sidgwick and Powell in 1940 but developed or improved by Gillespie and Nyholm in 1957

According to this Theory “ If a Molecules central atom present only bonding electron so geometry of Molecules is definite but Molecules present both bonding and Non-bonding electron so geometry of Molecules is changed ”.

  • Molecules of \sf{CH_{4}, NH_{3} and H_{2}O} have SP³ Hybridisation but \sf{CH_{4}} present only bonding electron so it's structure is tetrahedral but molecules of \sf{NH_{3} \: and \: H_{2}0} have bonding and Non-bonding electron so it's structure is changed Pyramided and Opposite V shape.
