Unisexuality, in biology, the condition of an organism or species capable of producing only male or female gametes (sex cells) but never both. A unisexual organism of a bisexual species is one in which the male and female gonads are found in separate individuals. In plants this condition is often called dioecism.

Unisexual organisms

The organisms in which male and female reproductive system are present in different individuals are called unisexual organisms. We can also say that the organisms in which male and female sexes are separate are called unisexual organisms. For example, human beings, birds, reptiles, fish etc.

Bisexual organisms or Hermaphrodites

The organisms in which both the male and female reproductive system are present in the same individual are called bisexual organisms or hermaphrodites. For example, earthworm, leech, starfish, tapeworm etc.
