Well as we all know that our mother earth is covered with a blanket of air which constitutes of many life-supporting gases i.e. the gases needed for supporting life on earth. This thick blank of air is termed as atmosphere. This blanket of air is much thick and extends from surface of earth up to the height of about 10000 kilometers.

This atmosphere exerts enormous pressure on earth's surface which is termed as atmospheric pressure. It is also known as barometric pressure. Atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude. The atmospheric at sea level in normal weather is about 760 mm of Hg.
