- The substances formed as a result of a chemical reaction by formation of new bonds are called products. This are always written on the right hand side of the chemical equation.
- Example: Formation carbon dioxide gas by combustion of coal in air is a chemical reaction. In this reaction, coal(carbon) and oxygen (from air) are the reactant while carbon dioxide is the product.
C + O2 ------> CO2
(carbon) (oxygen) (carbondioxide)
In the above equation C+O2 is the reactant because it's written on the left hand side of the equation whereas CO2 is the product as it written on the right hand side of the chemical equation.
