Women were active participants in the revolution? Before the revolution they worked for a living. They worked as seamstresses, dressmakers, laundresses and domestic workers. They did not have access to education. They also performed most household jobs.

The women founded several political clubs. Around 60 women's clubs came up in different French cities. Their main demand was for the right to vote. The revolutionary government did introduce several laws for the women but the Jacobians were hostile to the cause. Women's right movements continued in different parts of the world. It was in 1946 when women in France won the right to vote.

The most famous women's political club was The Society of Revolutionary and Republican Women. One of the most famous revolutionary women was Olympe de Gouges.
