Anno Domini (Latin), which means ‘in the year of the Lord’. Since it is natural to say ‘in

the year of the Lord 180’, AD is written before the number, for example, AD 180 means

180 years after the birth of Christ.

The dates for BC go backwards. Thus, 232 BC will come before 185 BC. To calculate the

number of years between a date in BC and one in AD, the two should be added together.

So 250 BC to AD 150 will be four hundred years.
