The role of man in the protection of the environment, is to carry his responsibility of ensuring that whatever you do ,eat ,work, play, live, is of such a nature that it is not causing irreversible damage to the environment, and to limit the damage you may be causing by doing the things you do. Be aware of what an action of yours, actually does to the environment.
To illustrate: You driving in the country, you decide to go " cross country", leave the track, the new track you make with your vehicle depending on the eco-system and material zone you are driving on may leave a trail that the environment may need a week , a month, a year , 50 years to recover, some delicate areas may never recover. Now we talking just tracks, not the pollution from an oil leak or something else that may be discarded. So before you do just about anything, try to establish what the environmental risk or impact will be if you do it.
If the food you eat has it's origin from a place that destroys the natural environment to produce what you are eating, either find a source that does not include the destruction or choose not to eat it.
Any effort to stop irreversible damage to the environment is worth it's weight in gold.
