Finding LCM is used in many places, like -

  • Adding and Subtracting Fractions/Rational Numbers

When we add or subtract two fractions or rational numbers we need to make the denominators equal. So over here we find the LCM of the denominators to make them equal.

  • Arranging Fractions/Rational Numbers in Ascending or Descending Order

When we have to arrange a group of fractions or rational numbers we find the LCM of the denominators and make them equal. After that, we arrange them in ascending or descending order respectively.

  • To find a Perfect Square that is divisible by a few numbers.

Sometimes we have questions like - Find the smallest perfect square that is divisible by 18, 15 and 20. So here first we find the LCM of 18, 15 and 20 and do the rest of the steps. So here also we apply LCM.
