December 16, 1995, the day was renamed to 'the day of reconciliation'.

Explanation:

In South Africa, December 16 celebrated for the reconciliation between black and whites today had different names earlier. December 16, firstly celebrated as 'Dingaan's day' signified the victory of Voortrekkers over Zulu army.

In 1894, the day was declared a public holiday. In 1952, it had a name change to 'day of the covenant'. But, from the year 1910, people against racial discrimination protested on December 16, finally leading to the reconciliation.
