R.H Whittaker classified organisms into five groups Monera ,Protista ,Fungi ,Plantae ,Animelia on the basis of complexicity of cell structure ,complexcity of body structure ,mode of nutrition ,presence or absence of sexual reproduction and phylogenetic relationship.

He left out virus because he thought virus to be at border line of living and non living organisms
