a) Friction is required to write. The friction between the pencil and glass is not enough, and therefore, you cannot write on the glass.

b) Holding on to the handlebars, you realise your hands became sweaty, This increases friction and could cause your hands to slip. Therefore,the handlebars are covered in rubber sheets to increase the friction and prevent slipping.
