Explain why a compass needle deflects more in sea water than in tap water when tested with a conductor

a compass needle deflects more in sea water than in tap water when tested with a conductor.it is because tap water is pure and hence it is not a good conductor.but in case of sea water , it contains salt and hence salt water conducts more and needle deflects
