A magnifying glass consists of a double lens which focuses the light rays coming from the sun onto a single point, on the surface of the leaf, that is the focal point. Solar radiations strike the earth's atmosphere at about 1361 watts/sq meter.

This energy is very high compared to a smaller burner that consumes about 900 watts. Therefore concentrating high energy onto a single point will burn an object instantly. Hence leaf gets burnt.
