Explain why a series and parallel circuit is apprpriate in different situations?

Series connection can be useful in situations where one would love to control the entire lighting bulbs with one switch like in a hall.
Parallel connection would be useful when the the set up should allow the controlling of individual lighting bulbs like in separate of a house.
