it you
as much as a cup of hot tea.

Explanation:

It will not unless it contains as much energy as the cup of tea. So a tiny spark may be at 1,000C but a whole cup of tea at 90C will deliver far more heat (energy) to the skin as the spark.

The reason is as follows:

  • The factor of heat energy and surface area are the ones that lead to pain and blisters on our skin when we touch a hot object.
  • The spark from a firework can have a very high temperature. However, when it touches our skin, it touches only a very tiny area of our skin. Since the surface area is too small, only a little heat energy is absorbed by our skin from the firework. Thus, we do not feel so much heat and pain from the sparks.
  • The surface of a hot tea cup can have a lower temperature from the spark. However, the surface area of our skin where the cup touches is quite a big area. Thus, more amount of heat is absorbed by our skin, and we feel the pain.
