the compostion of air varies with location and thus it is a heterogeneous mixture while a compound is alike at all places nevertheless of the surroundings

Because it consists of several gases which are not in a fixed proportion.
For example in industrial areas more amount of carbon dioxide will be there while in rural areas more amount of oxygen will be available.
