Question:

Explain why an amphibian heart is not suited to a mammal?

Answer:

An amphibian's heart is not suited for a mammal because amphibians are generally much smaller than mammals, and they have hearts with only three chambers, where the heart of a mammal has four chambers. Amphibians are also cold-blooded, which means they do not have to regulate their own body temperature because that temperature depends upon the ambient environment. However, mammals are warm-blooded, and the four-chambered heart system is much more efficient in regulating body temperature as it is able to oxygenate the circulating blood to a much greater extent, creating more efficient metabolism.
