Explain why an aqueous sollution of sodium chloride is neutral but an aqueous sollution of sodium carbonate is basic.?

this is because in case of Nacl .+1 charge on Na is balanced by -1 charge of chlorine and compound is neutral . but in case of sodium carbonate has -2charge and sodium has +1 so it is basic in nature ..
