hey there !!! .
An athlete In a race will be given glucose instead of a piece of bread because glucose provides the instant energy .
in glucose , mostly there is present c6h12o6 which provides energy as fast as nothing food or bread can do that .
if we give an athlete a bread than it takes too long to digest it and than breaking down it into glucose and than this glucose slowly slowly approached at every cells of glucose. in thus whole process it takes too long to provide energy to the athlete to run more and more without any break because ina marathon race we have to run continually without any pause . so ,, mostly in marathon athletes gets some energy drink or even glucose .
cause all material contain in it in soluble form .
hope it helps !!

hi mate✨✨✨☺️☺️☺️
hope it hlps✌️✌️✌️
"Athletes need extra energy as compared to us because while they run, their energy is being used. Energy level increases by eating lots of carbohydrates, and glucose is a common and effective source of carbohydrates. So, they drink glucose drinks to help them regain the energy that was lost in running."
