a substance is anhydrous if it contains no water, for example, salts lacking their water of crystallization. The way of achieving the anhydrous form differs from one substance to another.

the purpose of using desiccators is to absorb moisture. Anhydrous calcium chloride (Cacl2)has the capacity of absorbing moisture as it is hygroscopic in nature .So, it is used as desiccator.
