10 chromosomes (each made of two sister chromatids) are present during metaphase. 20 chromosomes are present during anaphase because the sisters chromatids have been pulled apart. After telophase and cytokinesis, the new daughter cells will each have 10 chromosomes, which is identical to the parental cell
