Calcium starts floating because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed stick to the surface of metal.

Ca(s) + 2H2O(l)------> Ca(OH)2 + H2(g)

Magnesium reacts with hot water & starts floating due to the bubbles og hydrogen gas sticking to its surface.
