As Carbon has valency 4, it could not give away 4 electrons to get noble configuration or gain 4 electrons for the octet configuration. So it shares it 4 electrons to become stable. Sharing of 2 electrons is covalent bond. AND REASONS WHY CARBON FORMING A LARGE NO OF COMPOUNDS ARE THE FOLLOWING. 1 . CATENATION- carbon has the ability to bond with other carbon atoms and form a long chain 2 .TETRAVALENCY - carbon has a valency of 4

samarthraj82: question is asking that why they form strong bonds

Because carbon has a valency 4,so  for lose of electron it need ionization energy but it also does not take 4 electron because it has small nuclear size. Hence it can share electron and make covalent bond
