Answer:

In order to form ionic bond by carbon it needs to loose 4 eletron or to gain 4 electron which is impossible by carbon so it only form covalent bond. carbon has valency 4 to attend noble gas configuration it need to gain or lose 4 electrons so that it would form ionic compound. ... Thus carbon doesnt form ionic compounds

Answer:

Carbon is found almost in all living organisms. It's Atomic number is 6 and Atomic mass is 12g.

Ionic compounds either gain or lose electrons but in the case of carbon it has four electrons in the outermost shell which may be gained or lost to attain noble gas configuration.

But the problem if it gains or losses electron are :

*If it gains more four electrons then forms anion that would be difficult for the nucleus to hold ten electrons (6 carbon electrons +4 gained electrons).

*If it loses 4 electrons then forms a cation. But then it would be harder to remove four electrons thus leaving behind 6 protons cation in its nucleus.

So as to overcome these problems carbon shares it electrons and thus forms only covalent compounds but do not forms ionic compounds.
