Explanation:
In H2O and NH3 has 2and3unpaired electron respectivly in their atomic orbital.for in water, 2bond pair and two lone pairs are present, sum of bp and lp is four therefore sp3hybridization happened.in ammonia 3bp and 1 lpare present, sum of bond pair and lone pair is four, therefore ammonia has also sp3hybridization.
the reason for different shape and bond angle, is due to presence of lone pair. lp lp repulsion> lp bp repulsion > bp bp repulsion.
no of lp in ammonia is 1
no of lp in water is 2
therefore the bond angle of ammonia is 107° and shape is trigonal pyramidal and bond angle of water is 104.5°and shape is bent or vshape.or angular shape.
