Question:
Explain why chlorophyll and other pigments important in photosynthesis in 8-10 sentences.
Answer:
⇒ Photosynthesis enables green plants to prepare their food which they use for growth and survival. The extra food gets stored in the form of starch in different parts of the plant.
⇒ The essential ingredients are collected by the plant from its surroundings.
According to the question :
◍ Chlorophyll , the green pigment present in the leaves help in the absorption of light. Cells of the leaves have special chlorophyll containing structures called chloroplasts. It absorbs sunlight and converts it into chemical energy , which is then used to prepare food.
◍ Water and minerals :- The root system in plants helps in the absorption of water and minerals from soil. These are carried to other parts of the plant through tubular structures called Xylem.
◍ Carbon dioxide :- The leaves of plant absorb carbon dioxide from atmosphere. Carboniei dioxide is absorbed through minute openings called Stomata. They are surrounded by bean-shaped guard cells on either side.

Photosynthesis :
⇒ The process by which plants produce their own food by using carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll is called Photosynthesis.

Chlorophyll and other pigments are important in photosynthesis because they help absorb the energy from light during the process.
- Pigments simply are substance that absorb light. And their colour comes from the lights that they reflect.
- Chlorophyll which is present in chloroplast is regarded as the primary pigment absorbing the red and blue light and reflecting the green.
- There are also other pigments which also absorbs different colored light having different wavelengths.
