When oil supplies finally deplete, gas prices will skyrocket then soon gas stations will probably be no more. Electrical charging stations (for cars) will become more common and other modes of transportation will be forced to change their fuel source. Many will suddenly find themselves without a job and renewable energy will become more commonly used. The oceans will slowly (slooowly) start to clean themselves up a bit.

However, the transition period will be shocking to many, as life as we know it would change (mainly through transportation issues). Coastal towns, states and many OPEC countries would be devastated because their economies run on oil production and sales.
-
Overall, the sudden loss of oil would suck. If it were a gradual decline (which seems to be happening) we would see an increase in oil-based job loss and an increase in electronic/renewable energies.
