The British introduced the railway system in India because they felt the need for a fast and quick transportation to carry the raw materials across the country easily which was needed by them.
Answer:
Though British entered India with the only motive to exploit the resources, they slowly started feeling the need of a proper and fast transport to move raw goods from the areas of production to the harbours and cheap England goods from harbours to the markets.
They introduced railway in India not for betterment or upliftment of the society for fulfillment of their own requirements.
However, introduction of railway was misinterpreted by the common mass of India. They thought that the people who were reluctant to accept Christianity as their religion, would be thrown in front of the railway engine and would die. They thought that all these things were done to propagate Christianity in India.
