The change in temperature mainly happens in upper portion.Lower portion remains cooler in summer hotter in winter. Moreover the dissolved oxygen decreases with increase in temperature. So in upper portion there is deficiency of oxygen also. That's why aquatic animals prefer to stay in lower portion of water in summer.

In summers the sun rays gets reflected back from the surface of water, which makes the water on top the hotter while the bottom level remains cold. So fishes prefer to live in cold water and oxygen supply do not get affected.
