A copper statue lose its beautiful luster on being kept in open for some months and a green layer is deposited over it due to moist air.
Copper statue is exposed to moist air for long it acquires a dull green coating .
The green material is a mixture of copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2 and copper carbonate( CuCO3.)
(Moist air is H2O + CO2+O2)
The following is the balanced reaction:
2Cu + H2O + CO2 + O2 ----->(Cu(OH)2 + CuCO3

question -
Explain, why does a copper statue lose its beautiful luster on being kept in open for some months and a green layer is deposited over it.
answer -
A copper statue lose its beautiful luster on being kept in open for some months because of moisture and humidity in the atmosphere.
A copper metal on being exposed to open for some months, forms a green dull coating on its surface.
The green coating contains copper hydroxide, Cu ( OH ) 2 and copper carbonate Cu Co3 .
While the moisture contains hydrogen H2O, Carbon dioxide CO2 and O2 that's oxygen .
Thus the reaction takes place and gets balanced like the following -
2Cu + H2O + CO2 + O2 = Cu ( OH ) 2 + CuCo3
