Solids expand more than liquids, because in solids it's molecules are very tightly packed and attraction between the molecules his very high as compared to in liquids, when It expands it's molecules attracts and shakes and the heat can easily travel from molecule to molecule in less time. So it expands more than liquids. In liquids, the molecules are less tightly packed and there are vast spaces between them and so the heat will take time to travel.
